It seems that the Holiday season came and went far too quickly and we’re already well into the New Year! The CSI Houston Chapter rang out the year with the traditional Holiday party which was held at South Bank Seafood Bar on West Dallas near Downtown. It was a casual and cheerful atmosphere underlined with food and drink and engaging conversations among guests and Chapter members. A big THANK YOU to all who donated all the wonderful toys for children in need. The toys were donated to BEAR Be A Resource for CPS Kids, a non-profit organization serving Harris County that provides hope and help for approximately 16,000 abused and neglected children annually. The CSI Houston Chapter is happy to have provided holiday gifts to children who would otherwise have not had holiday cheer at all.

Happy & Prosperous 2018!
Another year is filed away into the history books. Hopefully, Pat Kiley’s forecast for the new year will confirm our optimistic gut feeling. January’s meeting kicks off the year and motivates us to build relationships, sharpen our skills and be more successful.
A great way to build and sharpen is to become more involved in our CSI chapter. As a committee chair, director or officer, you become a member of a team composed of product representatives and architects (& engineers are welcome). The relationships between these professionals leads to years of friendship and cooperation. You will add industry experts to your network as your knowledge base expands. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer.
Thanks to our first generation of email sponsors. These companies are investing in the CSI Houston Chapter. They all manufacture top-quality products and we can endorse them without reservation. Please recommend these companies whenever they can fill a need. Their representatives would appreciate any leads that you can share.
If you’re a golfer or would like a gift for a golfer, be the first person to send me an email request and receive two passes for golf at Tour 18. Better yet call me at 281-227-3577.
I left you with a question in November. I have only received a couple of comments and answers. I encourage each of you to review the last few paragraphs of the November message and let me know your thoughts.
Happy New Year!
Bill Fairbanks, CSI, CDT
President, CSI Houston Chapter
The CSI Houston Chapter held its annual Brian T. Harrington golf classic, now in its 28th year, at Tour 18 in Humble, Texas. Participants represented a rich cross section from industry including architects, engineers, manufacturer’s and product representatives, specification writers and student members from our affiliate Chapter from Prairie View A&M accompanied by the venerable Professor Norwood.
The weather gods bestowed a nice and ‘balmy’ 95 degrees Fahrenheit upon the highly competitive tournament that launched with a shot gun start at 1:30pm sharp. After a highly contested game the winners emerged proving their grit, fervor and skill for the game… Congratulations!
1st Place – Billy Barker, Mike Guerrero, Kevin Duesterhoft, Tom Donnigan

Special thanks to the golf committee under the leadership of Caroline Koop who executed a well-organized and successful golf tournament with over 80 registered players! Additionally, the golf tournament wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of all the attendees and sponsors in particular who’ve contributed to the success of the event. Along with our highly anticipated January meeting the golf tournament is vital to the Chapter and wouldn’t be possible without you! In case you missed it… This year’s CSI Houston Chapter fall tour took place October 23 at the Kirby Collection, a swanky new mixed use development prominently situated on Kirby Drive. We had the pleasure of being hosted by David Rendon, project manager with Thor Equities who guided us through the striking, elliptical-shaped 25-story residential tower containing 199 luxury apartments with spectacular views of downtown. The residential tower is part of a larger development being constructed by E.E. Reed Construction including a 232,000 gross square feet 13-story Class-A office tower, 67,000 square feet of retail and a 6-level parking garage. Estimated completion is first quarter of 2018 and it is slated to achieve LEED Silver certification under LEED BD+C: Core and Shell v3 – LEED 2009.
After the tour the group gathered for a networking and social happy hour at Carrabba’s. Crane Composites generously sponsored a table top where Jacob Carr and Robert Nelson displayed the latest in FRP products.
Stay tuned for the spring tour in 2018 which will be held at the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern.
